Abu Dhabi: A total of 250 Emirati pupils from Abu Dhabi have been granted scholarships for the 2014-2015 academic year, the Abu Dhabi Education Council (Adec) has announced.
Among the beneficiaries, 200 will study in UAE-based universities while 50 have been selected to study abroad. They have chosen majors in electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, medicine, accounting, finance, economics and education.
According to the Adec statement, the pupils have already been briefed on their rights and responsibilities as part of the scholarship grant. Additional sessions will also be organised to provide further academic guidance.
The yearly scholarship is open to all Emirati Grade 12 pupils who have scored 85 per cent or more in their General Secondary Certificate exams. Emirati university students who have completed 30 credit hours while maintaining a cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 3.0 can also apply if they select fields of study approved by the Adec.
As long as they meet the required performance levels, beneficiaries receive monthly stipends. Those who demonstrate outstanding academic performances also receive annual bonuses.
