The year 2016 has been predicted to be the year of emerging markets in Pakistan with Asia Pacific and Japan leading innovation, said Naveed Siraj Country Manager, Intel Pakistan during the ‘Year End Thought Leadership Conference 2015’ in Karachi.

A transition from frontier to emerging markets will be the major focus of 2016 for Intel Pakistan, a manufacturer of semiconductor computing chips.

The company plans to set a new key trend in 2016 by introducing computer personalisation through sight, sound and touch. Digital penetration will also see an increase through 3G, 4G, and 5G data networks due to higher numbers of consumers purchasing mobile devices.

“We see a lot of traction towards the telecom sector, especially after 3G and 4G technology was rolled out in the country,” the Intel Pakistan’s chief said adding that the cellular operators are now finding new revenue streams to monetise the mobile broadband growth. Quoting an example he said that over 80% of televisions display HDMI-enabled technology which can be converted to a fully functioning PC through Intel Compute Stick.

Intel’s operations in Pakistan currently focus on marketing and sales output; the company’s future plan to launch a manufacturing unit in the country still remains under consideration.

Discussing the scope of local manufacturing, Siraj said that there is a need to develop critical mass first. “That is we need skilled human resource and that, too, in large numbers. We need engineers who believe in innovation and policies that encourage innovation.”
