UK in City – exploring Dehradun and Bhubaneswar

British Council is organising an education mission to the cities of Dehradun and Bhubaneswar. Through this mission we aim to provide an opportunity and platform to UK institutions to promote UK as a study destination across schools and Higher Education Institutions in cities of Dehradun/ Mussoorie and Bhubaneswar.
During the mission UK Institutions will get a chance to interact with potential students who are interested in studying overseas and will be able to talk to the School counsellors/faculty about their Institution, courses and student support facilities. The programme shall also entail of networking opportunities with faculty members of Higher Education Institutions to scope for future potentials.

City profiles:

Dehradun is the capital city of the state of Uttarakhand in the northern part of India. After becoming the capital, there has been continuous growth in education, communication and transport. As the state capital, Dehradun is home to many government institutions and is renowned all over India for its quality education institutions.
It hosts some of India's best boarding schools and training institutions of national importance such as the Indian Military Academy, national foundations such as the Ordnance Factory Dehradun and Opto Electronics Factory of the Ordnance Factories Board and the Defence Electronics Application Laboratory. Other institutions include the Indian Institute of Petroleum, Oil and Natural Gas Corporation, Indian Institute of Remote Sensing, Wildlife Institute of India and the Forest Research Institute
The prominent schools in the city include The Doon School, Welham Girls’ High School and Sela Qui International. Many Schools in Dehradun and Mussoorie where founded by the British during pre-independence era and over the years have evolved to an ethos of their own. There are various Higher Education Institutions offering courses in Engineering, Management, Pharmacy, Law, Medicine etc. Some of the key institutions are Dehradun Institute of Technology and University of Petroleum and Energy Studies

Bhubaneswar is an emerging Information Technology (IT) hub, the boom in the metals and metal processing industries have made Bhubaneswar one of the fastest developing cities of India in recent years. Bhubaneswar has emerged as a fast-growing, important trading and commercial hub in the state and the eastern India. Tourism has been and is one the major industries in Bhubaneswar, with the city attracting about 1.5 million tourists every year. With the economic liberalisation policy adopted by the Government of India in the 1990s, Bhubaneswar received investment in telecommunications, information technology (IT) and higher education. Bhubaneswar has been identified as the top ten emerging cities in India by Cushman and Wakefield, taking into consideration factors like demographics, physical, social and real estate infrastructure, current level and scope of economic activities and government support. 
In 2012, Bhubaneswar was ranked third among Indian cities, in terms of starting and conducting a business by the World Bank. Bhubaneswar has emerged as an education hub in eastern India, with several private and government colleges geared towards engineering, management, and other courses.
Bhubaneswar has two deemed universities and many institutes of national importance as well as a number of prestigious schools. SAI International School, KIIT International School, KIIT University, IIT Bhubaneswar, Xavier Institute of Management and Business, CV Raman Group of Institutions are some of the institutions where the British Council has regular presence.

Details of institutions planned for the mission will be shared on receiving the minimum expression of interest.

Dates:
Dehradun: 30 April to 3 May 2013
Bhubaneswar: 6 to 9 May 2013

Costs:
UK delegates to fund their own international air travel, accommodation and related expenses.
Local travel within the cities will be covered by the British Council
A participation fee of £700 will be charged per UK Institution towards the mission in Dehradun
A participation fee of £625 will be charged per UK Institution towards the mission in Bhubaneswar.

Important:

  • This mission is open only to UK Institutions and selection will be on first-come-first-serve basis. Agents will not be allowed to participate.
  • The event will be open to a minimum of 4 UK institutions and maximum of 10 institutions (for Dehradun) and a minimum of 4 UK institutions and maximum of 8 institutions (for Bhubaneswar). Only one delegate per institution will be allowed to participate.
