Teacher Trainer contract in Kazakhstan

The British Council in Kazakhstan is looking for a qualified and dynamic professional to be part of the British Council team in Atyrau and Kulsary, a small town in the west of Kazakhstan and ensure the successful delivery of our teacher training project.

Job Specific skills, knowledge, qualifications & experience:
We are looking for an experienced, flexible and self-motivated DELTA/CELTA/TESOL qualified EFL teacher trainer who has done his/her initial teacher training and then gained significant post-certificate teaching experience with a range of ages and abilities.

The teacher trainer will deliver in-service programmes for primary and secondary school teachers of English and pre-service university students and ensure that full support is provided throughout the duration of the contract. The teacher trainer will be the key person for all training aspects of the project. The teacher trainer will ensure strong, trusting relationship with teachers, school administrators, education authorities and be supported by the British Council ELT team and finance unit based in Almaty and Astana as well as a full time local project coordinator based in Atyrau.

The teacher trainer will work with primary and secondary school teachers and therefore will need to be aware of the British Council’s Child Protection policy and adhere strictly to all relevant corporate practice and procedures.

The post holder will be working for the period of 7 months providing local teachers with teaching methodology in order to improve the teaching of English in Atyrau and Kulsary.

Project description:
Education in Kazakhstan is undergoing transformative change to support ‘Kazakhstan 2050’, a state development strategy that aims to make Kazakhstan one of the 30 most developed nations in the world by 2050. This ambition requires the continued development of a high-quality education system that will help young people to develop the knowledge, skills and values they need to live and work in a globalised economy.

The project aims to address the problem of low levels of competence among English language teachers, and will provide a long term legacy of trained teachers and trainers, as well as a resource centre fully equipped with computers, books and materials. Improved teaching and use of modern materials is designed to lead to improved language levels among pupils in schools in Atyrau and Kulsary, in line with the requirements of today’s employers. This project will take into account the needs and interests of both teachers and learners and involve a Local Education Authority and corporate partner.

Key elements are:
• Face to face training led by a British Council-appointed qualified Teacher Trainer;
• Online training using British Council e-courses and website materials;
• Summer school for pupils led by qualified and experienced local teachers;
• The creation of a Resource Centre for teachers and students;
• Competitions for teachers and students;
• Opportunities for teachers to take an internationally recognised examination;
• A Conversation Club led by the Teacher Trainer (if needed).

Teacher Trainer, 7 month contract: to enable the British Council in Kazakhstan to meet its strategic objectives through development and delivery of a high-quality teacher training project.

Teacher Trainer Responsibilities include:
• To contribute to the development of the project by conducting a needs analysis, planning, developing and delivering the teacher training programme in order to meet the needs of internal and external customers;
• To conduct 2-hour face-to-face training sessions 3 times per week in Atyrau and one-day of training per week in Kulsary, ensuring wherever possible that ICT is incorporated into the delivery;
• To deliver one 2-hour face-to-face training session per week for students at the pedagogical faculty of Atyrau State University;
• To ensure that appropriate training resources are in place and coordinate activities, resources, equipment and information;
• To review and evaluate teachers and students’ needs throughout the duration of the project and administer a continuous assessment system for teachers and students;
• To establish and maintain throughout the duration of the project strong relationships with key external and internal stakeholders, ensuring they have a clear understanding of the programme;
• To actively contribute to the maintenance and use of Facebook for dissemination of good practice as a tool for forums, discussions, materials, developments and building a teaching community in the region;
• To offer constructive input, support and cooperation to all project activities and initiatives, such as festivals, summer schools, English clubs enabling teachers and students to fulfil their potential;
• To collect constructive feedback from teachers, students and wider community;
• To provide regular reporting to the British Council Project Manager on the project overall and progress of individual trainees.

Requirements:
• Accredited teaching certificate in CELTA, DELTA, TESOL or a recognised professional teaching equivalent;
• Extensive teaching experience and 3 years+ experience in teacher training;
• Excellent customer-facing and communication skills;
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills;
• Team working and relationship-building skills;
• Solid organisational skills including attention to detail and multitasking skills;
• Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office and other tools.

Our offer:
• Gross salary £2,000 per month paid in KZT by the British Council’s monthly rate
• The British Council will withhold 20% of the total gross payment, including fees and other expenses stated in the invoice, in compliance with the legislation of Kazakhstan, pay it to the tax authorities in Kazakhstan and provide the Supplier with a certificate. 20% withholding tax will not be deducted in case the Supplier provides a Certificate of Residence.
