This is a facilitation service where the British Council will identify, facilitate, and help to create winter and summer school partnerships between the UK and Indian educational institutions.

Like everything else this year, winter and summer schools are looking different in 2020-21. Classes all over the globe have transitioned either completely to online teaching and learning or to a blended format.

Summer and winter schools have always been popular amongst Indian students. Students and their parents are constantly looking to develop new skills or new experiences to set themselves apart in competitive higher education space. Schools and colleges too are keen to offer international opportunities to their students where they can earn certifications or skills and learning that will give them an extra edge as they move into higher studies.

This year, Indian schools are especially keen to engage with international schools and colleges/ universities to develop online learning opportunities for their students – so they can come out from this pandemic with valuable lessons, learnings, and experiences not only in India but in their international aspirations as well.

Indian parents have always been keen on education, learning and academic experiences for their children, and with the challenges this year, the appetite for online summer and winter schools has been encouraging.

To address the learning gaps left exposed by online classes and to provide international opportunities to Indian students, the British Council has developed an offer where the UK education institutions will be matched with a package of 3 Indian schools and colleges for a winter or summer school. While the winter school will be imminent for the coming months, summer 2021 is likely to be a key recovery period for the international student market, and short summer programs can play an important role in providing students an opportunity to experience the UK’s world-class education.

As part of this program, the British Council will identify and host preliminary meetings with Indian schools and HEIs who are keen to host winter and summer school programmes by UK institutions and help facilitate these partnerships till an agreement or delivery model is reached.

We expect the programmes by the UK institutions would engage the students in a full or part- time intensive online learning course in a chosen subject designed to encourage international perspectives and stimulate cultural awareness. The program would be customised as per the needs of local Indian educational institutions and would be designed and delivered by the UK education institutions.

• Fees per student and costing model
• Batch size
• Timeline
• Course component and outcomes including certification

Role of the British Council-

The British Council will match the UK HEI profile with Indian schools/ colleges who would be a right fit for the proposed summer/ winter programme. The British Council will hold preliminary meetings with the local institution to understand their requirements and expectations to ensure the discussions between the local and UK institutions are valuable and fruitful. We will also use our excellent schools and colleges networks as well as our on-ground expertise to ensure a successful match between the institutions. This will include setting up the meetings, initiating the conversations, updating both the sectors about the development and supporting to finalise the contract.  

Cost to the UK sector- £2000 per Indian institution/school. In case of any change in the scope of work, the price would change accordingly.
