Qatar Banking & Finance Education and Training Roundtable

The British Council in Qatar is delighted to open recruitment for the Banking & Finance Education and Training Roundtable on 5th November 2013, on the sidelines of the Qatar International College Fair.

Background:

Qatar is seeking to diversify its economy as it moves towards achieving its 2030 vision. The Banking & finance sector has been developed significantly over recent years, with the establishment of a number of new banking institutions, a Financial Market Authority, and a financial free zone. Qatar is also home to a significant sovereign wealth fund and thus capacity to handle major acquisitions.

A number of education institutions and programmes have been launched to support the development of the sector.  The roundtable will bring together policy-makers, employers and educators to explore how well the education system currently supports the needs of the sector, and will seek to identify challenges and opportunities to develop education and training programmes which meet the future needs of the banking and finance sector in Qatar.

Objective:

Participation at the roundtable will allow UK institutions with a strong track record in banking and finance education and training (specialism in Islamic banking would of course be of great interest) to understand the needs of this growing sector, to engage directly with decision makers, and to develop relationships with education institutions and with employers. The discussion will cover secondary, vocational and higher education as well as continuing professional development needs. It will also allow Qatari stakeholders develop a greater appreciation of the strengths of a UK banking & finance education

Representatives from policy makers (Qatar Central Bank, Financial Markets Authority, Qatar Financial Centre Regulatory Authority) major banks (of which Qatar has a large number of retail banks, and education institutions (likely to include Qatar Commercial School, College of the North Atlantic, Qatar University).
