Nabeul Language Village is a residential summer school based in Nabeul, which is situated on the south coast near to the Cap Bon peninsula. 67 km south-east of Tunis by motorway (as far as Hammamet) and by road, 10 km north-east of Hammamet. Railway station (Tunis libre).

The first objective of Nabeul Language Village is to create a linguistic environment where  600 undergraduate students communicate in English most of the time, with a focus on everyday spoken English (as opposed to the rather ‘literary’ English they experience at university).

The second objective of Nabeul Language Village is to foster cultural exchange in a spirit of mutual understanding and respect of different cultures. This exchange takes place between Tunisian students since the 600 participants come from the 15 departments of English throughout Tunisia and UK students. All of them come to NLV with some preconceptions and stereotypes about each other. The Ministry’s objective is that when they leave NLV, they have a different, more balanced understanding of the others’ culture and way of life.

A third objective is to encourage NLV participants to be more self-confident and assertive when they communicate in English. In the IT courses, for example, students are asked to make research on the internet, process it with PowerPoint and make a presentation of their work in front of an audience.

The British Council will select UK students from application forms. Students who are interested to take part in this programme are required to engage in cultural activities, debate and discussions in English with the top 10% Tunisian students from departments of English across all Tunisian Universities

The British Council will sponsor the airfares of 10 UK students. The Ministry of Higher Education, Scientific Research and Technology will cover the costs of meals and accommodation in Tunisia. The Ministry will also arrange for students to be met on arrival at the airport and escorted to the airport on their departure date.
