Opportunity for partnership with Cairo University in open education
The Open Education Centre (OEC) in Cairo University is seeking a partnership opportunity with a UK university to deliver joint or dual programmes in Egypt. They are interested in collaborating on the delivery of distance learning programmes, including bachelors degrees, masters degrees and professional qualifications.
About Cairo University
Cairo University is one of Egypt’s best public universities. Established in 1908, it is the oldest modern university in Egypt. Its graduates include three Nobel Laureates. Cairo University has 280,000 students, studying in 22 faculties.
About the Open Education Centre
The OEC was established in 1991, making it the first open university in the Middle East. It now has 11 campuses across Egypt, in addition to centres in Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, UAE, Qatar and Turkey.
It enrols 90,000 students (60,000 of whom are based in Cairo and the rest of whom are spread around the country and region).
The OEC offers programmes in the nine fields, including Commerce, Literature, Law, Sciences, Agriculture and Media. OEC currently delivers mainly bachelors degree programmes, in addition to a small number of master degree programmes.
It is looking to expand the scope of delivery to include MBAs and Professional Qualifications (eg CFA, ICDL).
Study in the Open Education Centre
OEC uses a blended learning approach. Most courses require 25% of delivery to be through face-to-face lectures. The remainder is delivered through books and electronic learning (methods and facilities include video broadcast, satellite channels dedicated to OEC, YouTube channel, online webinars, recorded lectures on DVDs, etc)
