Opportunity: HECA London tour 2020

The British Council USA is pleased to launch a tour of higher education institutions in the London area for 30 - 40 HECA members from 20 - 24 April, 2020 in collaboration with the Higher Education Consultants Association (HECA). We are looking for 8 institutions in the London area to host the HECA members for a morning or afternoon visit during that week.

Our objectives are to:

  • Showcase the depth, breadth and quality of the UK HE offer
  • Empower HECA members with the knowledge to advise their students on applying to the UK and choosing the best fit institution
  • Increase the number of applications and US student enrolments at the participating institutions

The Higher Education Consultants Association (HECA) is a professional organization focused exclusively on the practice of independent college admissions consulting. Today, HECA has more than 1,000 professional college admissions consultants from every region of the United States. Their members serve the college planning needs of more than 23,000 high school seniors each year. As HECA's members have seen rising interest in the UK among their students, HECA and the British Council are planning this tour to increase their members knowledge of UK universities. HECA members are primarily based in the US.

HECA will manage the selection process of participants. HECA members will be admitted on the tour on a first-come, first-serve basis. The tour will open for HECA members in September.

Note: We may have up to five HECA members who are based outside of the US and we will notify universities if a participant outside of the US will be included in the tour.

Showcase institution visits will generally either be from 8:30 - 12:30 or 13:30 - 17:30. Visits do not need to include a meal, although refreshments are appreciated. The tour participants will have evenings and Wednesday afternoon free to recharge and explore London.

The visit programme is at the discretion of the institution but we strongly recommend including the following elements: campus tour, interaction with current US students, a presentation on admissions criteria for US students and information about the current US student population, showcase subject strengths, involve a range of presentation and engagement methods (i.e. not exclusively PowerPoint!).

We will accept universities on the tour on the strength of the proposed programme and on logistical feasibility.

Showcase institution fee: £2,350 + VAT

The fee goes towards the participant's local transportation, lunches for the participants each day, subsidises the participant's accommodations, and covers staff time and travel. The participants on the tour will also pay a fee to contribute towards the cost of the tour.
