Newton Bhabha PhD Placement 2020

Newton Bhabha is back with its annual PhD Placement programme. This year, the fund will offer PhD scholars from India and the UK to spend a period of their study (up to two - four months) in UK or India higher education institutions. These students will get this opportunity between April - December 2021.

The Newton-Bhabha Fund fosters long-term sustainable research collaborations between UK and India

On behalf of the Department for Business Energy and Industrial Strategy in the UK and the Ministry of Science and Technology in India along with British Council India, the Department of Science and Technology (DST), the Department of Biotechnology (DBT) and Indian Council of Social Science Research (ICSSR), we are pleased to invite applications for funding to support short-term PhD placements between UK and Indian institutions.

• build research capacity for Scholars
• increase cultural understanding
• foster sustainable research collaboration with institutions in both the countries

Application and Eligibility

Eligibility:

  • In the UK, the scheme is open only to UK scholars pursuing their PhD at a UK higher education institution in area of STEM and Life Sciences. Scholars from England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland are eligible to apply.

In India, the scheme is open only to Indian scholars enrolled at public-funded Indian higher education institutions with the following criteria:

  • INSPIRE PhD Senior Research Fellows (SRFs)  from 2017 batch are eligible to apply for  STEM and Life Sciences subjects only
  • PhD Scholars (other than INSPIRE Fellows) in second or third year of Life Sciences are eligible to apply
  • ICSSR Doctoral Fellows or registered PhD scholars (full time) studying in second or third year of PhD in Social Sciences are eligible to apply.
