Join the Going Global 2020: Social Distancing Edition

This year, Going Global is offering a digital alternative completely free of charge throughout the month of June: Going Global 2020: Social Distancing Edition. The team will be hosting live virtual events, publishing blog posts and podcasts, and sharing posters which explore this year's conference theme: 'Global learners, global innovation'.

Here are just two of the many free events taking place this June:

1. After the storm: what shape will international HE take after 2020?
Thursday 11 June 2020 - 11:00 to 12:00 BST

After the immediate Covid-19 crisis subsides, how will international higher education re-emerge and how will it have changed? This virtual session will answer these questions through analysis of student sentiment, gathered through British Council surveys, and our long-term forecasts of student mobility.

In this session - led by Matt Durnin, International Education Services, British Council - we’ll try to distinguish which changes will be temporary and which represent a more substantial paradigm shift.  The session will begin with a 10-minute animated presentation, followed by discussion with the audience. It will also include several live polls to gauge audience members’ own perceptions of how international education and mobility will change.

2. International education - the beginning of a new era, or not?
Tuesday 23 June 2020 - 10:00 to 11:00 BST

The global international education landscape has dramatically changed in the last few months. As we continue to work in a challenging and ever-changing situation brought on by Covid-19, the education industry is faced with the mounting task of figuring out if this is temporary, semi-permanent or a change of course that will shift and shape the entire international education ecosystem.

Join our panel of international education leaders for this live discussion as they weigh in on the future of international education and how we navigate the challenges and aftermath of Covid-19.

Leading the debate is Matt Durnin, International Education Services, British Council.  Joining him on the panel are:

Nancy Rothwell - president and vice-chancellor, Manchester University
David Pilsbury - deputy vice-chancellor, Coventry University
Laurie Pearcey - pro-vice-chancellor, UNSW Australia
Dr Elizabeth Lee - CEO, Sunway University Malaysia
Xi Youmin - executive president, Xi'an Jiaotong-Liverpool University China
