Developing an English Language Strategy in the General Education system in Georgia

English is seen as a fundamental skill for young Georgians by the Ministry of Education, which introduced compulsory second language learning from the first grade in 2011, and actively seeks to improve English teaching and learning in state schools and the higher education system.

English language provision in the state education system is only partly responding to the actual need for English language skills.

In response to the challenges, the Government of Georgia has decided to develop English Language Strategy in partnership with the British Council to ensure country meets the current and future requirements for English skills and informs relevant reforms of the education systems.

We are looking for an Education Consultant with a high-level expertise in the field of educational reform, with particular reference to teaching and learning of English in General Education. The Consultant will work with the British Council to support the Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sport of Georgia in developing English Strategy in General Education document to include: defined vision for English in General Education (GE) and recommendations for relevant reforms of the GE systems and structures to support the development of effective ELT practices

The Consultancy will be carried out online during December 2020 - February 2021
