Call for UK institutions to participate at the Films Connection project in Lagos Nigeria, October 29 to November 4, 2017

British Council Nigeria in partnership with Africa International Film Festival (AFRIFF) – with other UK partners to be announced - are organising a Film Connections event in November 2017. The Film Connections project will create a platform for better linkages for collaboration, exchange and trade between the Nigerian and United Kingdom film industries.

The project will have two phases, one in Nigeria and the other in the UK. The Nigeria phase will hold in November during the Africa International Film Festival (AFRIFF) 2017 in Lagos.

The activities at the film connection event include:

  • Film screenings (of 5 – 10 British Films)
  • Visit to Nigeria by British film industry stakeholders like filmmakers, funders / investors, training institutions etc. During their visit, they will undertake:
    • Training workshops for filmmakers and film funders
    • Networking events to meet potential partners
    • Panel discussions to discuss pertinent issues like possible UK – Nigeria film co-production agreements and opportunities for UK investment in the Nigerian film industry

This event is an opportunity for UK institutions with offers in film, cinematography and other related creative art courses to gain market knowledge and raise their institution’s profile in Nigeria.

Festival Details

Date:    October 29th - November 4th, 2017

Venue:  Festival Hub, Lagos, Nigeria  

The festival will be attended by a wide range of people (mostly Nigerians) who work in the film making value chain. The event provides a career development platform for the young professionals with keen interest in film industry, giving them an opportunity to start planning and learning new skills that will improve their employability profile.

Participation opportunities

The audience will comprise of a wide range of students and young professionals from the film industry in Nigeria. There are only five exhibition slots available and only institutions offering courses related to the film sectors will be considered on a first come first served basis.

The session will be held at the festival hub provided by Africa International Film Festival (AFRIFF) and exhibition stands will be branded with the institution’s promotional materials, which include:

            • distribution of promotional material to the audience

            • placing standalone banners in the auditorium

Participation at this event is free of charge.
