Call for UK Higher Education Institutions to participate with the British Council at Bengal Global Business Summit (BGBS) - India

Update: Application is now closed

City: Kolkata, West Bengal, India

Date: 20-21 April 2022

The sixth edition of Bengal Global Business Summit (BGBS) will be held in Kolkata on 20-21 April 2022 at Biswa Bangla International Convention Center the world class convention centre. BGBS is the annual flagship event organised by the Government of West Bengal to showcase the business readiness and investment potential of the state in front of the global business community. The last in person edition of BGBS in 2019 attracted participation of over 4000 delegates from across India and 32 countries (including a significant presence of the UK).

The UK has been invited to be one of the partner countries, through British Deputy High Commission and Department of Trade. This year Hon’ble PM Shri Narendra Modi has confirmed his participation in the inaugural event.

This edition of BGBS has a special focus on education, healthcare, and creative industries within the services sector. West Bengal wants to build a 20-year strategy to create the state as a hub for these sectors not only for East and NE India, but also neighbouring countries of South Asia and ASEAN. This year the UK is supporting the event as one of the key partner countries, and we are keen to ensure maximum representation from the UK. We would be grateful for your contribution to this event through face-to-face participation. Towards this, we have 2 major opportunities for the UK HEIs.

First, for the face-to-face participation to join the UK delegation in person for 20-21 April 2022. This is an excellent opportunity for UK representatives, including from India offices, to travel to Kolkata during that period to attend this event. All travel and living expenses will have to be borne by the UK HEIs. If you are keen to attend this event, please send your RSVP to the contact person mentioned below. You will be provided space within the main British Council and British Deputy High Commission stall in the exhibition area to meet prospective students, agents, counsellors, and Indian university representatives to present and discuss recruitment and partnership opportunities. Do share your university logo in .jpeg /.png format as we would like to showcase the logos at the main events and at our stall. There is no charge for this, and all expenses of the stall will be borne by the British Council. You will also be provided a Study UK Connect Corner within the stall or a designated room to conduct masterclasses on popular subjects, workshops on SOP writing, application tips, alumni interactions, chat with prospective students and parents and representatives from schools and institutions.

Although we have yet to see the final programme for the event, the main events for BGBS will take place on 20-21 April 2022. The UK expects to run its own short programme for all of the UK delegation during that day. We especially require your support for that programme. Post BGBS you will also get the opportunity to attend the education summit organised by Sister Nivedita University on 22 April 2022 where you will get access to prospective students and other Indian academic representatives from East and Northeast India. You are also free to plan your own visits to schools and Indian HEIs post BGBS, which the British Council can advise on.
