Call for papers from UK Institutions for the 11th International Language and Development Conference in New Delhi, India from 18 - 20 November 2015

The Language and Development series is a conference held every two years that explores the role of language in development. It addresses the issues of world, national, second and minority languages and the role they play in economic, social and cultural development; language policy, conflict transformation, language rights and identity; communication, education and development and language pedagogy.

The 11th International Language and Development Conference will be held at The Lalit hotel, New Delhi, India from 18 - 20 November 2015.

Theme and event details:

Linguistic and cultural diversity is a fact of life in developing countries - in India as elsewhere. With this in mind, the theme of the 11th conference is Multilingualism and Development.
This will be
 held in New Delhi, India, as a three day event for 250 participants from 18 - 20 November 2015.

At the 11th Language and Development Conference we hope to bring together policy makers, professionals and researchers working in development where language plays a key role in development and progress.
As well as practitioners, project and programme implementers, conference participants will include key influencers in language, education and social inclusion (including access to technology) at policy level, such as senior ministry officials, consultants, researchers and other change agents from India, South Asia and beyond.

  • Registrations open: Monday 1 June 2015
  • Early bird deadline: Monday 31 August 2015
  • Registrations close: Monday 2 November

Action Required

Proposals for papers and other types of presentation should be submitted in English on the proposal form and sent to LDC2015@in.britishcouncil.org no later than Friday 26 June 2015.

Proposals will be reviewed by the conference committee and selected on the following criteria:

Relevance to the conference theme and sub themes 
Originality 
Clarity, coherence and organisation 
Potential for audience interaction/involvement.
