VNU (HCMC) aims to become an innovative nucleus of the South of Vietnam

In January, the Ho Chi Minh City People’s Committee approved the master plan to develop the innovative eastern urban area in the 2020-2035 period, in which skilled human resources, technology transfer, advanced IT, and policies for development are key pillars for the development plan. The City People's Committee has recognised the VNUHCM as an innovation centre to join hands to train high-quality human resource for this area.

VNUHCM is the largest higher education establishment in the country with 36 institutions for training, researching and transferring technologies, including seven member universities. The university was one among only three Vietnamese universities ranked in the World University Ranking 2021.

In 2020-2030 period, the university plans to offer international-standard training programmes in ICT, AI and urban management. AI applications for use in traffic regulation, healthcare, finance, and commerce will be developed during this period. Just recently, it received VNĐ20 billion (US$864,808) worth of funding for research into big data, AI, blockchain, industrial control technology, new materials, and smart solutions from a Vietnamese property giant.

One of VNUHCM’s strategies is to continue focusing on scientific and technological development and innovation to help implement national and southern region development strategies and to raise its international profile.
