MOET Vietnam recently organised a workshop on digital transformation in the education and training sector. This is an activity to implement the National Digital Transformation Programme in which digital transformation in education is one of the eight priorities.

The Minister of Education and Training said during the workshop that Vietnam is striving to become a leading country in digital transformation in the educational sector. To do so, the education sector needs to be re-organised so that digital transformation can be carried out in a more methodical way. The aims of digital transformation in the education sector have been identified as to improve training quality, provide new teaching tools for teachers and change teaching methodology.

Some solutions have also been suggested, which include:

• a resolution and a comprehensive plan by MOET on the implementation of digital transformation in HE sector
• platforms to provide teachers with digital teaching and learning methods, tools and other reference information

The workshop also pointed out that high adaptation and capability of universities as well as changing views of managerial officers and lecturers at universities are essential to make sure digital transformation be effectively implemented.

A lack of a comprehensive framework and platforms for universities to implement a digital ecosystem in the teaching and learning environment is one of main challenges facing Vietnamese universities in their digital transformation implementation.  This can be an area for UK universities to support Vietnamese counterparts through partnership activities that focus on digital innovation in university governance and management. This also includes collaboration activities in curriculum reform and innovation in teaching methodology to ensure students are trained with digital transformation knowledge and skills to meet the increasing demand of human resource in the fields of digital economies. There are also opportunities for UK Edtech companies to explore and partner with local edtech ones to provide digital solutions and online teaching and learning platforms that are suitable with the context of Vietnamese universities.
