University examinations might get cancelled in wake of COVID-19 pandemic

The University Grants Commission (UGC) formed two expert committees to recommend a new academic calendar and scope of conducting exams during Covid-19. In April, it provided guidelines for the new calendar and to conduct university examinations in July and August 2020.

According to a recent update, the committee has now advised that the final semester examinationsbe cancelled due to a hike in Covid cases in India, and that students be assessed based on their past performance. It also suggests that students who are not happy with the assessment can be given a chance to appear for examination when the situation improves.

UGC is expected to release guidelines soon.

The panel also recommends deferring the new session for existing students to October, which was to start in July as per previous guidelines.
