UGC guidelines for new academic calendar and examinations in India

The University Grants Commission (UGC) has provided guidelines to Indian HEIs for the new academic calendar in view of Covid-19 pandemic. The academic session for continuing students will commence from 1 August 2020 and for new students from 1 September 2020. The admissions for 2020-21 will be conducted between 1 to 31 August 2020.

It also suggests that pending terminal and intermediate exams are to be conducted between July and August 2020. The guideline recommends HEIs to adopt flexibilities ike six-day working week, shorten the exam duration from 3 hours to 2 hours, to be open to conducting examinations online or offline etc.

These guidelines are based on recommendations by two expert committees that was formed earlier this month to advise on revised academic calendar and scope of conducting exams in light of Covid-19 situation.
