To broaden internationalisation for Secondary and Primary education in Taiwan, The Ministry of Education (MOE) has published the ‘White Paper on International Education for Primary and Secondary Schools 2.0' on 14 May and has earmarked a total of NTD1.09 billion to further develop the school sector from 2020 to 2026. The subsidy will be mainly used in two aspects:

1. School-based International Education Project (SIEP)
   SIEP aims to further develop the national curriculum and bilingual classes, encourage local schools to establish student exchange programmes, and upgrade local teachers and education administrators’ professional skills in international education.
    
2. Establishing a friendly environment for internationalisation
   Action plans for establishing a friendlier environment for internationalisation including: (1) setting up a certification framework for teachers and administrators to develop internationalisation, (2) reviewing and revising the current regulation of foreign teachers employment and overseas students recruitment, and (3) building a support mechanism for internationalisation. With this mechanism in place, local schools will be able to connect with their overseas education partners more effectively.

The White Paper sets out a clear direction for all levels of schools in Taiwan regarding internationalisation. This announcement and investment could lead to more opportunities for UK institutions, as Taiwanese schools look to expand their international work and capitalise on the money that has been earmarked to support this.
