State spending on higher education rebounds in most states after years of decline

According to a new survey from the researchers at Illinois State University and the State Higher Education Executive Officers, the amount of state spending for higher education in the US has begun to level out after years of sharp decline.

As of the fiscal year that began 1 July, 30 states have actually increased funding for higher education, though some large states, such as Florida, continue to see drastic cuts.

Much of the spending increase comes with an understanding that universities must find ways to keep costs down and increase completion rates.
