Sri Lanka: State and Private University standards to be increased

The Ministry of Higher Education and Highways has announced plans to put forward a bill to ensure standards of both state and private Higher Educational Institutes in the country. In an attempt to increase the internal recognition and ranking of local universities in comparison to those in the South Asian region, the government is hoping to promote the establishing of international links and recruitment of foreign students.

The government has also stated plans to establish three additional state medical faculties in order to cater to the growing demand for medical education. It is important to note that these plans have being announced at a critical time when policies relating to private medical education have come under close scrutiny.
