Soaring international and private school fees may drive parents to opt for overseas study destination

Over half of the private schools and majority of international schools applied for fees increase from this September, ranging from below 7 per cent to as high as 30 per cent.

With the new raise in fees, a school will be charging close to HKD200,000 a year. On top of school fees, some parents also had to pay for a debenture in advance to first secure a school place.

Hong Kong Academy will raise fees to HKD181,600 for Grades 6 to 8 and HKD197,600 for Grades 11 and 12, a rise of 11 to 12 per cent respectively.

Kellett School will raise fees to HKD143,300 for its primary section and to HKD183,400 for secondary section, a rise of 10 per cent and 5 per cent respectively.

Independent Schools Foundation Academy will raise tuition fees by 5 per cent to HKD199,700.

Since it would be difficult for parents to transfer children between schools, parents facing high fees may feel having no choice but to oblige.
