Singapore Institute of Technology could be the fifth local university
As part of the effort to create greater access for Singaporeans to a university education, the “Committee to Review University Education Pathways Beyond 2015” was set up in August 2011. One of the ideas that has emerged from this group is to propose a university that is practice-oriented and closely linked to the industries.
The Singapore Institute of Technology (SIT), which partners overseas universities to offer degree courses to polytechnic graduates, has been identified as a possible platform to be the fifth university in Singapore, taking this applied university model.
Set up in 2009, SIT currently offers 24 degree programmes, with ten partner universities and has an enrolment of about 1,500 students.
