Revamp plans for School Education in India

In an endeavour to improve the quality of school education in India, Union HRD Minister Prakash Javadekar has introduced large scale changes to Indian school education.

Following is the summary of changes:

  • Two chances to clear an examination: Examinations will be held twice a year. If a student is unable to clear the exam in March, he/ she will have another chance in June. If the student still fails he/ she will be detained in the same class.
  • Board exams: Class 10 board exams have been made compulsory for all the students.
  • Detainment: Every state in India will be given right to decide on the detention policy. The decision was made after education ministers from the states commented that it was difficult to improve the quality of education without exams.
  • New content for textbooks: HRD minister has looped in teachers and parents to take suggestions for revising the content of the NCERT textbooks.
  • Handbooks: It will be mandatory to maintain a handbook for each student. Handbooks will help in monitoring the progress of the student throughout the year.

These changes are expected to improve the quality of school education in India. SIEM India has created various opportunities for the UK institutions to engage with school students India and teachers.

The Schools Tour planned in August and September 2017 is a popular platform where UK institutions will be able to engage with students and teachers from key schools in India. To know more please send an e-mail to Shruti Khanna with a copy to SIEM South Asia.
