References of top universities in Vietnam by QS and Webometrics rankings

The Ministry of Education and Training has been asked to quickly release the rankings of local universities.

Vietnam has no official ranking of its universities so far but this will be part of the Ministry’s upcoming effort in quality assurance. 

In the interim, global university ranking systems such as QS University Rankings and Webometrics Ranking of World Universities, which ranks global university websites, have announced their rankings of Vietnamese universities in June and July respectively.

QS listed five Vietnamese universities in the dedicated ranking of the 350 top universities in Asia while Webometrics  announced that Vietnam has eight universities in South East Asia’s top 100 universities according to the latest report from Webometrics.

Below are the lists and criteria of respective ranking systems:

Ranking criteria

  1. Academic reputation (30%)
  2. Academic reputation (30%)
  3. Faculty/student ratio (15%)
  4. Citations per paper (10%)
  5. Papers per faculty (10%)
  6. Staff with a PhD (5%)
  7. Proportion of international faculty (2.5%)
  8. Proportion of international students (2.5%)
  9. Proportion of inbound exchange students (2.5%)
  10. Proportion of outbound exchange students (2.5%)

ACTIVITY (50%)

  • Presence (1/3). The current volume of contents published on the university webdomains.
  • Openness (1/3). The number of rich files published in dedicated websites.
  • Excellence (1/3). The number of academic papers published in Scopus system.

VISIBILITY (50%)

  • Impact. The level of impact on external partners.
