Families in South India spent 43% of their annual household income on education shows a study titled 'Household Expenditure on Higher Education in India: What do we know and what does recent data have to say'. This report provides estimates of expenditure on higher education and loans availed for higher education by Indians residing in various geographies.

Closely following the Southern region is West India at a close 38%, followed by Northern state’s spending on education from the total household expenditure. The spent is the lowest i.e. 23% in urban parts of north-east India and 16% in central rural India

British Council provides a range of opportunities in India to promote higher education in the UK. Indian parents are becoming more and more conscious in providing quality education to their children even though it comes at a high cost as per average Indian salaries. UK institutions need to make the most of this market demand and spend.
