Pioneering knowledge economies in Sri Lanka

Entrepreneurship is now a gradually popular concept among Sri Lankan Universities which have helped create a link between the country’s corporate sectors for collaborative initiatives.  

World bank, through Higher Education for the Twenty First Century (HETC) has been working in the Higher Education sector in Sri Lanka to enhance the capacity of the HE sector and to map HE services with social and economic development needs of the country.

Colombo Science and Technology Cell, which is a success story of the HETC efforts, attends to service, manufacturing and agriculture industries through research, development, innovation, knowledge and technology transfers. This project not only fosters entrepreneurship amongst student at the University of Colombo but also enhances opportunities for the initiation of research projects and consultancies aimed towards economic growth.

This novel concept has opened up endless opportunities for young graduates and is an inspiration for the whole university community in Sri Lanka.
