Pakistani universities feature in the top-ranking universities globally

Ten public and private sector universities from Pakistan feature in the QS World University Rankings 2021-2022. This latest list, which ranks the universities according to key metrics, includes 1,300 universities from around the world. Three universities feature in the 355-500 rank band, one in the 651-700, three in the 801-1,000 and as many in 1,001+ rank band. National University of Science and Technology (NUST), Quaid-i-Azam University and Pakistan Institute of Engineering and Applied Sciences (PIEAS) secured the top three positions from Pakistan. [1]

There are six indicators determining the institutions’ rankings — academic reputation (40%), employer reputation (10%), faculty-student ratio (20%), citations per faculty (20%), proportion of international students (5%) and the proportion of international faculty (5%). [2]

Also, 16 universities from Pakistan made it to the list of top university rankings 2021 by Times Higher Education. From Pakistan, Quaid-i-Azam University Islamabad leads the chart among Pakistani universities on the list followed by Abdul Wali Khan University Mardan and COMSATS University Islamabad. [3]

Times Higher Education university rankings use 13 performance indicators to highlight top performing higher education’s institutes in various aspects. The complete list included 551 higher education institutes from 30 countries in Asia. The universities are ranked on the basis of teaching, research, knowledge transfer, and international outlook.

Meanwhile, Tsinghua University of China topped the list followed by Peking University and the National University of Singapore. [4]
