The number of Bangladeshi students aspiring to foreign higher education is on the rise

Inadequate number of seats and quality of education in local Higher Education Institutions, political instability in the country and better employment prospects abroad are the prime drivers for the demand for foreign HE qualifications amongst Bangladeshi students.

In recent years, the USA, Canada, Australia, the UK, Germany and India are among the most sought-after destinations to study HE qualifications for Bangladeshi students. In recent years there has been a steady rush for universities in Asian countries like Malaysia, Saudi Arabia, Japan, China and others.

According to UNESCO data, a total of 2.2 million students from Bangladesh were enrolled in tertiary level programmes in 2017 - 2,755 to UK, 5,401 to Australia, and 7,143 to US HEIs.

Students’ preference of the study destination depends on the education cost, scholarship opportunities, living expenditure and post study opportunities.

Students usually receive valuable information regarding foreign HEIs, international qualifications and options to study abroad at various in country education fairs and university visits in Bangladesh as well as on the internet.

British Council Bangladesh can help UK HEIs through it’s Direct Marketing Services, i.e. UK HEIs are able to run counselling session or admission session or spot admission session at British Council offices in three priority cities, Dhaka, Chittagong and Sylhet. UK HEIs can also avail the range of promotional services through British Council platform such as banner display, flyer distribution, digital marketing and so on to promote the events or any offers for students in Bangladesh.
