News report on Study Group survey on how COVID will influence decisions of Indian students applying to foreign universities in 2021

Indian Express has reported on a survey undertaken by Study Group on student behaviour regarding studying abroad in 2021.

For Indian students, entering a foreign university of their choice is going to be even tougher this year due to many reasons including the fact that the students who could not start their studies in a foreign university last year may reapply this year. A survey by Study Group – an international education provider claims that one in every five students who could not make it in second half of last year are planning to reapply in near future. The study also finds that 75 per cent of prospective students intends to start their foreign studies in 2021.

Other factors that can boost application and increases student competition are post-study work visa and relaxations offered by universities to international students such as waving off of exams like SAT and admissions based on provisional scores.

As per the survey, there is a very contradictory finding that students wants to pursue a foreign degree hoping to get better income opportunities due to the gap of job in local market, as oppose to the early-covid days when students were considering staying back in India and looking for a future here.

The top choices of Indian students like MBA, data sciences, finance courses etc can be the toughest to get into which might lead to a rise in demand of offbeat subjects like music, wine tasting and food technology, luxury management etc. and also trigger students to consider lesser considered study destinations.

Another study abroad platform, Yocket, suggests that this is a very good time for Indian students to apply to foreign universities because at this time universities have lesser application and test requirements for foreign students
