The New Education Policy (NEP) is likely to be released by end of May 2020. Prime minister Narendra Modi has reviewed the draft earlier this month, and the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD) is working towards addressing those suggestions made.

The National Education Policy was framed in 1986 and modified in 1992. Considering the significant changes that occurred in the country and world economy and society, a committee was formed in May 2019 to formulate a new policy which was named New Education Policy.

The ministry aims to formalise the policy before the new academic year begins in September 2020.
