A new Director of External Scholarships was appointed to the Ministry of Higher Education in Oman on 5 January 2017. A graduate of Sultan Qaboos University, Mr Khalid Ali Alshaqsi has worked for the Ministry since 2000 in a variety of roles. In his new role, his main aim is to extend overseas cooperation and explore more opportunities for high quality undergraduate education, targeting institutions that focus on graduate employability or entrepreneurship.

Mr Khalid Ali Alshaqsi is also a UK graduate, having studied for an MSc degree in Managerial Leadership from Edinburgh Napier University in 2010.
