British Council says:

The NIRF rankings was first launched in 2015 and the results for 2021 were declared by the new Education Minister, Dharmendra Pradhan. India’s internationalisation ambitions, both for inward and outward mobility means an increased focus on rankings and standardised processes of evaluation of India’s massive education sector.

While the NIRF makes a solid framework for its domestic sector, it will be important to see how India positions itself in international rankings as well in coming years. The NIRF covers a wide range of Indian institutions and focuses more on teaching-centric indicators rather than research. These lists can help UK institutions to better understand potential Indian partners and their potential for cooperation, although it is important to look beyond rankings and look at institutions in their individual circumstances as well.
