The Minister of Education announced that the Ministry has identified six public universities and six private ones to process with mergers or business transformation on 23 May.

The three mergers of six public HEIs are National Cheng Kung University and Tainan National University of the Arts, National Ching Hua University and National Hsinchu University Education, and National Pingtung University of Education and National Pingtung Institute of Commerce.

The Ministry has also approached six other private universities whose students were less than 2000 to discuss future options, including closure. Name of these institutions are kept unpublished at this stage.

The Ministry expect this round of integration exercise to be completed by August 2014, reported United Daily.
