Ministry of Education expands overseas recruitment

A recent ‘Study in Taiwan’ exhibition in Malaysia saw 82 exhibiting Taiwanese HEIs and over 15,000 Malaysian students, projecting around 10,000 Malaysian students to study in Taiwan in the new academic year.

Malaysia has been the number one sending country to Taiwan. The latest stats show a 17.6 per cent increase on the number of Malaysian students studying in Taiwan on the previous academic year.

The higher education sector in Taiwan has enjoyed a reputation of being inexpensive with high quality. In order to further attract high performing students, the Ministry of Education has increased its provision of scholarships for Malaysian students, which drew considerable media attention.

Taiwan’s higher education sector is inspired to expand the role it plays in the international education. Its aim is to recruit five per cent of the international students around the globe. In addition to Malaysia, it will also focus on the Eastern Europe, Mainland China, Indonesia and Vietnam, as well as American Chinese students in the States.

With Taiwan’s diversified and high-standard teaching capacity and the low tuition fee, the Ministry of Education ‘is hopeful to recruit 100,000 overseas students in the next three years’, reported United Daily.
