Microsoft selects Student Partners from Universities across Pakistan

Universities across Pakistan have the opportunity to be part of the Microsoft team as Student Partners - the future of technology.

As part of the Microsoft Student Partners (MSP) programme, aspirants contribute to their respective universities as ambassadors of Microsoft technologies as well as represent their universities on the global Microsoft platform.

A selected Microsoft Student Partner (MSP) from Pakistan in an interview said, “Today is the happiest day of my life. It is just like a dream come true. I have been striving hard to get to the position that now I have attained”.

Microsoft Student Partner (MSP) is an international program offered by American multinational Microsoft Corporation. The program selects Microsoft Student Partners from over 100 countries. The aspirants go through a highly competitive procedure of selection to get shortlisted for this program and with a passion for technology to lead and mentor the next generation of software developers. Microsoft provides the tools, training and networking opportunities that help develop and refine skills needed to launch the students’ careers.

Microsoft also offers free MSDN subscription and Free Microsoft Azure services to allow the aspirants to learn, construct and train other aspirants along with the specific Free Azure services under DreamSpark.

Microsoft Student Partners work closely with the Microsoft team to organise the training sessions offered by Microsoft mentors, running workshops, hackathons, tech events, workshops and boot camps at their campuses, raising a community of aspirants as well as Information technology geeks in their institutions.

Over 300 aspirants from around the world were shortlisted for the interview and out of which 100 aspirants made it to the final list.

In Pakistan alone, over 550 students from different universities of Pakistan qualify for the selection criteria of Microsoft. Microsoft is working to sponsor its technologies in all the universities of Pakistan as well as providing aspirants with resources that are highly demanded in world market.

British Council narrative:

According to the Student Insight Survey 2015 conducted by British Council, major subjects in demand in Pakistan were business and administrative studies (17%), and engineering and technology (12%), followed by medicine and dentistry (7.8%), with social studies (economics, politics etc., 7.6%), Computer science (7.5%) and English language studies (7.2%) as the next most preferred study programmes.

Among prospective postgraduates, business and administrative studies was by far the most popular (19%), followed by social studies (economics, politics etc., 8.7%), and engineering and technology (8.5%). Education and English language studies were the next most preferred subjects (8.4 and 8.1% respectively).

In contrast, potential undergraduates were more interested in engineering and technology (14.7%), followed by business and administrative studies (14%), computer science (8.3%), medicine and dentistry (8.2%), and social studies (6.5%).
