MHRD, Secretary announces Twinning programmes, India

The Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD) in India have recently undertaken new initiatives which will enable them to focus on quality and to create transparency in the Indian education system.

As a part of these initiatives Satyanarayan Mohanty, Secretary, Department of Higher Education has announced Indian Institutions will soon be offering twinning programmes. As a part of these programmes, an Indian student will be able to complete one part of the course in India and the other part at any partner institution abroad.

The degree at the end of the programme will be awarded by the Indian educational institutions.

There are a multiple Indian Institutions that are offering Twinning programmes in India currently, like SRM University (Chennai), Sikkim Manipal University. The current guidelines for a collaborative programme are available on the AICTE website.

Mohanty also said the higher education department has started preparing a ranking and accreditation framework in India.

With this positive news of ease in regulations for Twinning programmes in India, UK Institutions will be able to tie up with Indian Institutions that have an International perspective and agenda.  Though the degree awarding body will be the Indian Institution, students under the twinning programme will get the experience to study and live  in the UK and other countries and these students may choose to study another full time course as well.
