Universiti Malaya (UM), Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM), Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) and Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) are listed in the top 100 Asian universities in the recent QS University Rankings for Asia, with UM leading as the only Malaysian university in the top 50.

Aside from the QS rankings, UKM had also appeared in the top 100 for the Times Higher Education 100 under 50 ranking, a new ranking for universities below 50 years of age.
