The Malaysian government has announced that Malaysia will re-open its borders to international travellers starting April 1.

All visitors, as well as Malaysian returnees, who are fully vaccinated will not be required to undergo quarantine upon arrival. They, however, must undergo a RT-PCR test two days before departure and a rapid test (RTK) upon arrival.

International travellers who are not fully vaccinated must undergo five days of quarantine upon arrival in Malaysia. On top of that, travellers who are not fully vaccinated will also be subject to local Covid-19 protocols when in the country, including not being allowed access to most public places and activities such as dine-in at restaurants.

We anticipate that the re-opening of borders will facilitate the return of UK institutions to visit Malaysia and nearby countries, to resume face-to-face activities and engage with prospective students, partner institutions and wider stakeholders. The re-opening of borders will also support student and academic mobility, both for inbound and outbound programmes and initiatives.  

It is important to note that under the new normal, visitors need to be aware that face masks are still mandatory in public areas, as well as practising social distancing.
