The PISA (Programme for International Student Assessment) tests, conducted every three years by the OECD for 15 year olds in math, reading, and science, have revealed a gap between quality of local education in Latin America and global education standards. There has been a reluctance by many countries in Latin America to participate in these international tests, leaving them off of the rankings completely. Some controversies have arisen regarding the methodology of these tests and whether they accurately measure the quality of instruction at institutions. These factors have revealed that expansion to access of education in Latin America is not sufficient without a parallel improvement in the quality of local education. UK institutions can provide demanded educational opportunities to students from Latin America who often face fierce competition for limited spaces in renowned educational institutions.
