Lanao lawmaker wants Moro history taught in schools

A lawmaker from Lanao del Sur is proposing the teaching of Moro history and culture in all school levels in the country.

Deputy Speaker Pangalian Balindong said the Department of Education (DepEd) and the Commission on Higher Education (Ched) should explain the roots of the armed conflict in Mindanao as well as the history of Muslims in the Philippines. He said the agencies concerned should also emphasize the positive relations and remembrances in history among the tri-peoples of Mindanao: the Christian settlers and their descendants, the Moros or Muslims, and the Lumad or indigenous highlander tribes.
