Kerala – The first Indian state to declare Internet a basic human right

Kerala, the Indian state with 93.9% literacy rate is also the first Indian state to declare Internet as a basic human right. Along with food, education and water the state government is making provisions to provide internet connection to every household.

Finance Minister for state Thomas Issac made the announcement and said that the government is aiming to setup internet gateway in 18 months and the requisite provisions have been made in the state budget. The government also plans to make all its transactions IT enabled by end of 2018.

More states will soon follow Kerala thus improving the internet penetration and accessibility of internet on mobile devices.
