Japan provides scholarships to 30 Bangladesh Government officials to pursue higher education courses in Japan.

Japan has signed a grant assistance agreement of up to 433 million yen with Bangladesh to take civil servants for higher education at its universities.

According to the embassy, 328 Bangladeshi government officers have studied in Japan under the Project for Human Resource Development Scholarship (JDS) scheme since 2002.

There has been constant intake of 15 candidates from 2010 to 2014. This number has been doubled in 2016making Bangladesh the second biggest among the 15 JDS participant countries.

This year JDS fellows will get the opportunity to take up different disciplines such as, public administration, economic affairs, legal system and urban planning, public finance and investment policy.

In addition, the Government of Japan has decided to open-up the JDS scheme for PhD candidates from last fiscal year. Three officers have already started their maximum three-year doctoral course in the East Asian nation.
