Indian institutions can tie up with foreign schools for UG courses

The government of India will now allow Indian institutions to tie up with foreign institutions for degree programmes for undergraduate courses. This was announced by the former Union Human Resource Development Minister Smriti Irani at the convocation ceremony of the Indian Institute of Science Education and Research (IISER), Kolkata

This announcement was made in the last week of June where the former HRD minister announced that students can study two semesters in a foreign institution during the tenure of studying for undergraduate courses and one semester for students doing the postgraduate courses. The degree certificate will include both institutions names i.e. the local and foreign institutions.

This dual study combination will help Indian students in getting more global exposure, knowledge, study experience and a chance to enhance their respective skills. This decision will also help those students who wish to pursue education in foreign institutions but are not able to afford high fees.

The country now has a new HRD Minister –Prakash Javadekar, however this announcement will be taken to its next step of implementation by the ministry

This is a good opportunity for UK institutions to look for collaborations with Indian Institutions that matches their subject and quality requirements.
