India to become the world's next education superpower

India has made great progress in recent years in the education sector. This has been established by the recently published Asian university rankings. The country is in a strong position to become the next education superpower. It is competing with Singapore, China, Japan, South Korea and Hong Kong - the big five Asian countries.

As per the Asia university rankings 2017 published, the highest ranked Indian University, the Indian Institute of Science-Bangalore is ranked at 27. After having just 16 representatives in last year’s top 200, India has 33 colleges in this year’s list of 300 universities. India’s rise is one of the big talking points in this year’s list, according to Phil Baty, editor of Times Higher Education rankings, which produced the table.

India’s economy is now the seventh largest in the world, complemented by the largest young population in the world. It has been forecasted that India will soon become the third largest economy by the end of the next decade. Its population is expected to exceed China’s by 2030.

A large number of Indians continue to aspire to study abroad to pursue a good education and to broaden their career horizons. India is one of the top countries that send students to the UK and other countries for higher education. However slowly and steadily the quality and ranking of Indian institutions is changing and hence the perception of Indian education within the country and to the world will be improving as well.
