India’s education policy is all set for a revamp

After a gap of 29 years the new government in India is all set to initiate a process to bring in a new education policy. In this new policy the main focus will be on the youth of India and the human resource development (HRD) ministry claims that this policy will not lack competitiveness and will have a digital edge.

The main themes of the policy will be quality, skill and technology. The other ministries that will contribute to the policy are: the ministry of information technology, commerce, labour, social justice, tribal affairs, health and youth affairs. A joint task force will be set after taking consensus and suggestions from all the above mentioned ministries.

The current status of the policy or the output of the meeting of the state education ministers on setting of the task force is yet not know. Watch out for this space as we will be uploading more information about the education policy as and when.

India’s current education strength consists of more than 220 million students in schools and over 29 million in higher education. India got its first national policy on education in 1968 under Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, and the second came in 1986 under Rajiv Gandhi.
