Increase student mobility: Choice Based Credit System being promoted by President of India

President Pranab Mukherjee urges Indian Universities to Implement Choice Based Credit System (CBCS). 23 Indian Universities have already adopted the new CBCS system.

As Universities across the country have different systems of evaluation, credentials of students haven’t easily been accepted across Universities in the country and has possibly prevented them from accessing employment opportunities.

"The initiative of CBCS will ensure seamless mobility of students across higher education institutions in the country as well as abroad. The credits earned by students can be transferred and would be of great value to them in the event of their seeking migration from one institution to the other.”

We feel student mobility will possibly increase and diversify if this measure is taken with Indian Universities; enabling students to not only explore options across the country, but across international educational institutions as well, including UK institutions which is amongst the most popular study destinations for students going abroad for higher education. Though 23 Central Universities in India have already implemented this measure, as per the news report, it will be interesting to see how many others jump on board on the Presidents advice.
