Hong Kong Students Finally Begin DSE Exams After One Month’s Delay

Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education(HKDSE) examinations have commenced from today (24 April) until will last until 25 May. The exams were originally expected to begin on 27 March, but were pushed back due to Covid-19. The oral exams of Chinese and English Languages were cancelled. Around 46,000 school candidates registered for this year’s DSE exam, which is 5% fewer than the total number in 2019.

Previously, alternative options such as further delays (to May/June) or even cancellations were being considered by Education Bureau. However, the possibility of cancellation was not well received by the local education community, because the assessment of the HKDSE relies heavily on the final exam. Unlike the IB, school-based assessment only accounts for a small proportion.

The Joint University Proprgramms Admissions System (JUPAS) have announced that the released date of Main Round Offer is postponed to 13 August. This usually kicks off a second round of applications to UK universities, with students who have missed out on a local place looking for overseas options instead.
