Hong Kong students choosing Taiwan for undergraduate studies grew by 50%

With increased recruitment activities from universities in Hong Kong, Taiwan is also raising its profile in terms of ideal study destination to Hong Kong students.

According to the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office (Hong Kong), there are 5,626 applications submitted by Hong Kong students for the 2014 intake, representing 50 per cent growth on the previous year. The top five universities hosting Hong Kong students are: I-Shou University, Tamkang University, Ming Chuan University, National Chi Nan University and Shih Chien University.

In addition to relaxed regulations and a progression route that is specific to Hong Kong students, a wide range of subject areas and English language provision in Taiwan could be viewed as an emerging competitive destination to the UK for Hong Kong students. Living costs and especially fees are significantly cheaper, meaning that Taiwan may be catering to students who do not possess the means to study in the UK.
